Photo Album Jazz in the Garden Jun 7 2009 The sky was blue, the sun was shining, the grass was green, and the flowers were in bloom, as the sounds of cool jazz floated through the air.
The most recent concert presented by the Mission Hills-Hillcrest Library was indeed a success, with over 70 people attending to hear jazz artists Holly Hofmann, Jaime Valle, and Ron Thorsen serenade us. Each musician is a master of her or his instrument, and the numbers they played were familiar tunes. Not only were they great musicians, but library lovers as well. In fact, they donated a percentage of their CD sales ($63.00) to the Friends.
The garden , which is maintained by owners Carol and Denny Wilson, is beautiful and very large, so there was plenty of room for the attendees, who sat in the sun or the shade to enjoy the day. Carol Wilson and her committee of Alyce Archuleta, Lee Rathbone, and Don Rudesill did a great job of planning and organizing the event, backed up by many volunteers from the Friends and the Library. The San Diego National Bank was the major contributor to the event; other local businesses and individuals who contributed to the event include Hillcrest Trader Joe's, Olivetto restaurant, the Ibis Market, and the Knapp family.
This makes three concerts in a row of great music, food and wine, and beautiful settings presented by the Friends. What do we do for our next act?? "Pumpkin Carving - Make a Jack-O-Lantern" Childrens' Craft Program at the Mission Hills-Hillcrest Branch Library, Oct 27 2007
